Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a beautiful and diverse wildlife destination located at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment in northern Tanzania. Covering approximately 330 square kilometers (127 square miles), with nearly two-thirds of the park occupied by the shallow alkaline Lake Manyara, it offers a unique combination of forests, grasslands, wetlands, and lakeshore habitats that support an impressive variety of wildlife and birdlife.

The park is best known for its tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior that has made Lake Manyara famous worldwide. Visitors can also encounter large herds of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, baboons, blue monkeys, and many other mammals. The lush groundwater forest near the park entrance is home to one of Africa’s largest populations of baboons, creating an exciting start to every safari.
